“Breaking out” (2020-21)

Aged, time-worn surfaces hold much more interest for me than freshly finished ones. Peeling paint, cracked concrete, and fading colors are beautiful testaments to an object’s history of service. That feeling was a natural choice in this piece, where I explored the idea of layers of meaning in a life and what happens when we begin to break away from what is expected of us.
